Acrylics!

"Eternal Hope"
This venture into acrylic painting at first glance may appear to be a simple still-life of yellow tulips. But exploring the colors and textures in more depth opens up a background of shadows and the unknown, juxtaposed to the bright and inviting flowers: a perfect metaphor for the uncertainty of life and the beauty of hope.

Wine Share and Art Show

Last Friday evening I was the featured artist for our neighborhood Wine Share and Art Show! I was asked to step in at the last minute (well a day before) because of another artist's cancellation, but all I had to do was set up my art.

The social director provided all the food, music and the reminder invitations, etc. He really went all out with huge platters of sandwich deli-meat and cheese, those tortilla wrap roll-ups, fresh strawberries, and brownies! Each guest brought their favorite bottle of wine. (I wish I had waited to take the pictures and included shots of all the food and the huge assortment of wine!)

Our clubhouse is perfect for this type of event. It was a lot of fun! AND I even sold one painting on the spot, and a couple neighbors asked about doing commissioned pieces! Not bad for a last minute showing!

Care for a cup of coffee?

There's nothing like a cup of French pressed coffee to get me going, so that's what I painted! My color palette consists of a gray-blue, soft and dark browns, with grays and a bit of black. I wanted to choose colors from my kitchen.

The canvas is 10" x 20", and I layered almost transparent acrylic paints on top of each other in order to build up the desired look. In a way, it was like painting with watercolors. I'm especially liking the shiny chrome. I think it makes a nice contrast with the textured background.

If you look closely on the lid of the press, you will see my dining room, which is where the coffee press was sitting when I sketched it. I sketched it in pencil directly on my canvas, and then just painted over it. Here's a close-up of the lid.

Thank you for coming to my site! Now go and enjoy that cup of coffee!

New Studio

I thought you might all like to see where I paint! My wonderful husband set up part of our garage as a studio for me! He even put in a little heater to use at night when it gets chilly. This summer I may be begging for an air conditioner, but for right now, it's awesome!

Trying Acrylics on Canvas!

This is my first acrylic painting! I'm shaking things up a bit, and setting aside my watercolors to see if I like another media. So far it's still a huge learning curve for me. Hopefully, I'll post more paintings soon!

Harlan Ranch Fall Harvest

Here are some more of my mini art prints, or 'Eye Candy'. On November 14th from 11:00 to 2:00 I will be showing and selling these at my neighborhood Fall Harvest. In this photo, you can see a bit of my display with the greenery and books as props. The idea behind this is to suggest how to display small art in small spaces. It kind of gives me the feeling of being in the gift section of a popular bookstore.

Here are some mini prints of my latest painting; I call them 'eye candy'. They are framed and signed and numbered limited edition (200) prints made of archival inks on Kodak matte paper. I visualize one of these framed prints sitting on a bedside table in a guest room, in someone's office providing them some 'personal art', or on a bookshelf in a living room. I'm selling them for $28.
